Ahead of the 2023 presidential race, the Spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who yesterday was on Channels TV with Seun, revealed they stand where the Northern people stand, as they are looking critically to 3 or 4 of the candidates, still in the process of assessing who they think deserves the support of the North as a lot of people are looking up to them for guidance, advice as the North has a huge number of votes and substantially, they would go to where group like them advice people to go.
That made Seun ask Baba-Ahmed how potent the Northern Elders Forum is and do the people still listen to them politically speaking on the way to vote?. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed in his words replied, sayingIf I tell you the answer, would you believe or Nasir El-Rufai? People listened to us, never let them down, never assumed a position that was inconsistent with Northern interests and they were the only group who stood up to Northern governors that said no Northerner should stand for election.
They have defended the Northern interest as 5 out of the 18 presidential candidates are from the North and so, people listen to them, which is why they are called the Elders”.
