Kemi filani news recalls that Omah lay emerged as one of Nigeria’s most talked-about musical innovators, thanks to his darkly dazzling vocals, intriguing storytelling, and infectious rhythms. Omah Lay’s form of Afro-fusion draws on his deep background with West Africa’s percussion-heavy highlife genre, as well as his love for his generation’s mainstream sounds—from U.S. rap to the Afrobeats empire blooming in his home base of Lagos.
That alluring voice unravels themes ranging from introspective to explicit throughout his breakout Get Layd EP, beautifully layered over lush and soulful instrumentals that he frequently creates himself. Omah Lay’s music reveals a young man daring to share his grittiest vices and innermost feelings, with dramatic settings and sincere confessions.
Omah Lay’s wordplay is unrivalled. The flow-on his new song “WOMAN” will make you want to meet your woman and dance.
