No fewer than two people lost their lives over the weekend in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State in a communal clash in Koseru community.
The clash which heightened tension in the community was said to have started when a woman was shot by someone while on her farm in the community.
According to a villager, the woman survived the attack but some youths who were said to be from Ikale in Okitipupa launched a reprisal attack on farmers resident in the community.
A vigilante and a middle-aged man, Kayode were identified as those who died in the attack.
Confirming the incident, Adetunji Adeleye, the Special Adviser to Governor Akeredolu on Security Matters disclosed that the remains of the victims had been deposited in a mortuary.
While disclosing that peace has returned to the community, Adetunji stated that security operatives have been mobilised to the community
“We are suspecting a reprisal attack of some Ikale youths who mobilised themselves and launched an attack on the unsuspecting Osun/Oyo farmers. There is a Councillor representing Oyo/Osun axis that was killed in the fracas. A vigilante member, not Amotekun, was [also] killed.”
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami said that the command has ordered the immediate arrest of the culprits behind the clash.
