A total of 324 persons were killed in 2022, while 1,706 others sustained various degrees of injuries in the same period in road accidents in Kogi State, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has revealed.
This was disclosed to newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday by Stephen Dawulung, the State FRSC commander.
He described 2022 as “very unfortunate and saddening”, in view of the number of lives lost and those injured through road accidents in the State.
According to him, a total number of 458 road crashes were recorded by the commission in the State from January to December, 2022.
He explained, “Out of the total cases of 458 auto crashes, 5, 161 people were involved, leaving 324 persons dead and 1, 706 injured.”
He noted that continuous refusal to adhere to traffic rules and regulations for safety and the recklessness of motorists resulted in the high rate of accidents in the State.
