According to statistics, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has upgraded or constructed 22 power transmission substations, lines, and transformers since 2020.
The company delivered four 132 kV transmission substations, renovated 15 old substations with greater capacity transformers and equipment, and extended three transmission line routes, according to project tracking records viewed yesterday.After Usman Gur Mohammed, the previous leader, left the company on May 19, 2020, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz was appointed as the new managing director. The four-year nomination of Abdulaziz was confirmed in April 2022.
A running fund of about N1 trillion has been provided to the corporation by multilateral donor organizations, including the World Bank ($486 million), the French government,($170m), African Development Bank ($210m) and Japan International Cooperation Agency ($235m).The 132/33kV substation at Gagarawa in Jigawa State with two units of 60MVA power transformer was finished in October 2020, according to the breakdown of the record.
The Yauri substation in Kebbi State was also finished by TCN, and two 40MVA transformers were built there along with a 100km long 33kV power line to connect the plant in June 2021.To increase power in the region of Kano, TCN installed a 132/33kV mobile substation at Bichi with a 30MVA transformer by April 2020.
In November 2022, two units of a 60MVA transformer were added to the Dawaki 132/33kV substation in Abuja to complete the project.TCN provided the Ikorodu-Odogunyan-Shagamu 132kV double circuit line between Lagos and Ogun states in terms of transmission lines in December 2021.15 already-existing substations had their capacities increased by the firm; one of them is the 132kV Ogba substation in Lagos, where a 100MVA transformer and its accessories were erected in November 2020.
At increase power in Lagos and Ogun, a 300MVA transformer was erected to the 330,132,33kV Ikeja West substation in March 2021. In the same month, a 60MVA transformer was installed at the Kubwa substation in Abuja.
