Footballer Christian Atsu, formerly of Chelsea, Málaga, and Newcastle United, is among tens of thousands of other victims, after his body was found among the rubble left by the earthquake. This sad news was communicated by his agent in Turkey, Murat Uzunmehmet, on Friday morning.
Christian Atsu’s agent has confirmed that ‘Atsu has been found dead’ after several days of searching in the Turkey earthquake rubble.
He was a Ghanaian footballer who played for clubs such as Chelsea, Newcastle, Fc Porto, Everton, and Bournemouth.
He appeared in 258 games during his career, scoring 24 goals and assisting on 30 others. He died at the age of 31.
Atsu was staying in a building with a number of Hatayspor team-mates and officials. The club’s sporting director Taner Savut is also missing.
Some survivors are still being rescued after the quakes and aftershocks in southern Turkey and northern Syria that are known to have killed more than 40,000 people.
