Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, took up this year’s Best FIFA Men’s Player awards at a ceremony on Monday in Paris.
Messi won the award over Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema and teammate Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain.
The 35-year-old finally got to raise the one big trophy he hasn’t won in his career since he won the 2022 World Cup in December.
“It’s incredible. It was a fantastic year, and I’m honored to be here tonight and receive this honor,” Messi remarked.
Messi won his second FIFA The Best championship; his first came in 2019.
In addition, he has a record seven Ballon d’Or victories.
