Eighteen female guards were fired after having illicit affairs with inmates at a British prison.
The relationships were discovered at HMP Berwyn, Britain’s largest prison, over the past six years, according to the Daily Mail on Sunday.
Mark Fairhurst, chair of the Prison Officers’ Association, blamed the relationships on hiring “the wrong kind of women.”
“Staff being recruited don’t have face-to-face interviews… it’s all done on Zoom,” he told the Mirror. Many of the people who get these jobs lack life experience and are susceptible to conditioning from prisoners.”
Jennifer Gavan, 27, and Ayshea Gunn, 27, were among the guards accused of initiating relationships with prisoners at the £250 million super-prison, which houses Category C adult male offenders.
