Team Nigeria once again struck gold Sunday afternoon as weightlifter Folashade Lawal won the women’s 59kg event.
Lawal set a new Commonwealth Games record with her lift of 90kg (Snatch), 116kg (Clean and Jerk), and 206kg total.
Compatriot, Edidiong Joseph Umoafia made it the third medal for Nigeria at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Umoafia got Bronze in the men’s 67kg Weightlifting event, lifting a combined 130kg in the snatch, 160kg in the Clean and Jerk with a total of 290kg to get to the podium.
Adijat Adenike Olarinoye it would be recalled gave Nigeria her first gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, lifting a combined total of 203kg, a Games record to win the women’s 55kg Weightlifting event.
She set two records in 10 minutes the in Snatch category of women’s 55kg Weightlifting event by lifting 90kg & 92kg while she lifted 111kg in the Clean and Jerk with a total 203kg in the 55kg women’s snatch event.
