Premier League: Man United’s woes continue with 1-2 Brighton upset

Manchester United got off to a disappointing start under new manager, Erik ten Haag in the Premier League losing 1-2 to Brighton at home on Sunday afternoon.

Although Brighton had never won at Old Trafford, all that was going to change when Pascal Gross got his first of the day to put the visitors ahead in the 30th minute.

Despite being inferior in post-match statistics, the Seagulls made life difficult for United for the entire duration of the game.

Gross gave the Seagulls the lead with half an hour gone, as the German midfielder tapped home from inside the area, following Danny Welbeck’s square pass across the six-yard box.

The German added both his and Brighton’s second just 10 minutes later. A swift counter-attack found Solly March on the left, before David De Gea parried his effort into the path of the 31-year-old to tap home.

With just over 20 minutes left, a Bruno Fernandes’ corner was turned into his own net by Alexis Mac Allister. VAR provided a long check as goalkeeper Sanchez appealed for a foul, and there was a review as to whether the ball inadvertently struck Dalot’s arm before the keeper cannoned the ball into his own goal off Mac Allister. It was given and that was all United could do as Ten Haag suffered his first defeat in charge of the Red Devils.
