Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team have qualified for the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
This follows another narrow 1-0 win over Korea Republic in Alajuela.
The Falconets came out with all three points in the keenly anticipated top-of-the-table clash.
Ahead of the match, Korea Republic were top of the log on goal difference, having beaten Canada 2-0. Nigeria had pulled off a 1-0 win over France.
There was little to choose between the two teams until midfielder Esther Onyenezide’s fierce curling shot flew past Yoonji Do for the only goal of the match in the 83rd minute.
The Falconets will play Canada in their final fixture, before facing their quarter-final opponents from Group D.
Cup holders Japan, The Netherlands, USA and Africa’s other flagbearer, Ghana make up Group D.
