Adefarati receives a Certificate of Return two months after the election.

Two months after winning the Akoko South East/South West federal constituency seat, Gboyega Adefarati, the son of Adebayo Adefarati, the former governor of Ondo State, received his Certificate of Return from INEC.

The Court of Appeal recognized Adefarati’s victory after upholding his election.

The INEC National Commissioner, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, delivered the Certificate of Return on Wednesday at the commission’s Abuja National Headquarters.

Recall that the Court of Appeal upheld Adefarati’s nomination by the party for the House of Representatives.

Adefarati won the APC primary, and the Court, which decided unanimously that the lower court erred in dismissing the primary,

The primary that resulted in Adefarati’s victory had been declared invalid by a Federal High Court.

Adefarati asked the Appeal Court to appeal the ruling after the development.

However, in a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Yusuf Bashir, the Appeal Court overruled the lower court, highlighting that it lacked jurisdiction and that the originating summons was not properly signed.

Adefarati received 25,872 votes, defeating Gbenga Kolawole of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who received 18,403 votes.
