Plans for the All Progressive Congress (APC) to conduct a fresh primary election in Gassol/Bali federal constituency in Taraba State have been concluded.
There are also plans to conduct a fresh primary election in the Jalingo state constituency, as confirmed by the leadership of the party.
The primary elections followed the recent supreme court judgments that nullified an earlier exercise conducted in 2022.
In a letter, addressed to the party’s state chairman, Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, the proposed reruns were an order of the Apex court.
He said the party has unanimously agreed to comply with the supreme court ruling by conducting fresh primaries in the aforementioned constituencies.
” In receipt of the judgement of the Supreme Court delivered on the 27th January 2023 in Appeal No.SC/CV/1525/2022 and Appeal No SC/CV/1524/2022 wherein the Supreme Court affirmed the nullification of results of the primary election in Bali/Gassol federal constituency and Jalingo 1 state constituency respectively both in Taraba State and ordered a fresh primary election in the aforementioned constituencies” the party is set to embark on fresh reruns.
He said the party would work round the clock to ensure hitch-free exercise, “upon the above, the party has scheduled the conduct of fresh primary elections to elect its candidates.”
”In compliance and in tandem with the provision of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), the indirect mode of primary elections, shall be adopted for the conduct of both primary election reruns.”
The reruns which according to him, have been scheduled for the 9th of this month, are to simultaneously take place in Bali, the headquarters of the central geopolitical zone of the state, in the Jalingo metropolis.
