In Azikoro town, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, six armed robbers reportedly shot and killed a 20-year-old woman while robbing homes on Tuesday morning.
Elo Lucky, the victim, is said to have been shot by the robbers in the early hours of the morning for yelling after she awoke in astonishment to see armed men stealing her family.
The six armed men reportedly assaulted the Health Center neighborhood of Azikoro town, broke into homes, seized phones, and demanded ATM cards from which they withdrew all of their victims’ money using the POS machines they were carrying.
The victim, a Delta State native who lived with her mother and stepfather, was reportedly preparing to take the JAMB supplementary examinations before her murder.
A source in the neighbourhood reports that they were unaware of the robbers’ attack (because their generator was running at the time) until they heard the gunshot that killed the victim.
According to reports, the robbers raided six other homes in the area unresisted.
They ransacked homes, robbed victims of their cash, and even threatened to kill those who refused to give their ATM card pins for instant withdrawal through their POS.
The incident left Azikoro town mourning as sympathisers trooped to the home of the bereaved family.
When contacted, the Bayelsa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
