Gernot Rohr, a former coach of the Super Eagles, will soon take over as national team head coach of the Benin Republic.The Benin Football Federation (FBF) reportedly convened on Tuesday to ratify the appointment of the Franco-German, according to reports coming out of the West African nation.
Former Benin international Moussa Latoundji, who has served as the Squirrels’ interim manager since last year, will be replaced by Rohr.The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fired the 69-year-old in December 2021 despite having led the Super Eagles to both the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations playoff phase and the 2022 FIFA World Cup knockout stage.The 2023 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda will be Rohr’s first match as the Squirrels’ head coach next month.
Benin is last in Group L after losing their opening two games against Senegal and Mozambique.
