The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has dragged three siblings before an Akure magistrate court to answer charges of assault against one of its operatives.
The brothers, Mimo Ogunmakin, Doyin Ogunmakin, and Oloruntosin Ogunmakin, were arraigned alongside one Olaiya Alawoesokan on allegation of assault on an Amotekun operative, Oluwasegun Omoloro.
Omoloro was said to have been attacked by the accused persons while he was performing his duties at the Amotekun office in Irele, the headquarters of the Irele Local Government Area of the state.
The defendants were charged with two counts each of conspiracy and assault causing injury to an Amotekun operative.
The accused conspired to unlawfully assault the victim, an Amotekun officer, at his place of duty, the state’s counsel, O.F. Akeredolu alleged.
He said the offense violates Sections 516A and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Akeredolu sought for a postponement so he could prepare for the trial after the accused entered a not guilty plea.
Mr. O. Bernard, the defense counsel, asked the court to provide the most lenient conditions possible for his clients’ release on bail while also offering to put up trustworthy sureties.
The case was adjourned till November 26 for a hearing after Magistrate D. S. Sekoni granted the accused persons bail in the amount of N200,000 with one guarantee in the same amount.
