Court Sentences Spiritual Head to Two Years In Prison

An Akure High Court handed down a two-year prison sentence to Oluwambe Ojagbohunmi, a self-styled prophet and spiritual head of the Aiyetoro community in Ilaje Local Council of Ondo State, for acts of violence and disturbing the peace of the community. The court also sentenced Victor Akinluwa, Isaac Ikuyelorimi, Lawrence Lemamu, George Eyekole, and Segun Okenla, who were found guilty of engaging in violent acts on January 11, 2018.

The charges against them included conspiring to commit armed robbery, during which they were accused of robbing Temitope Olowodasa of N270,000.00 and Igoli Akinlana of industrial sewing machines, plasma TVs, and a cash sum. The convicts were armed with weapons during the robbery, violating the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act.

The accused faced charges of malicious damage to property, and Eyekole specifically was accused of attempting to murder Olu Obolo by shooting him with a gun. Justice David Kolawole sentenced Eyekole to five years in prison for attempted murder.

While the judge acquitted the convicts of armed robbery conspiracy, he provided the option of a fine for counts related to malicious damage to property. Additionally, the judge mandated the convicts to sign an undertaking to maintain peace in the community to avoid further penalties.
