Ease Of Doing Business Compliance; FAAN, BOI, Others scores low

On the ease of doing business Presidential order, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Bank of Industry (BOI), and the Nigerian Shippers Council (NCS) were among the organizations with the lowest compliance rates.

This was said yesterday in Abuja during a press conference and official release of the council’s 2022 Executive Order 001 (EO1) Compliance Report by Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Special Adviser to the President, Secretary, and Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).

She claims that the report’s purpose is to track compliance with the Presidential Order on Transparency and Efficiency in the Nigerian Business Environment throughout time and to keep the business community informed.

Reports evaluate that 36 agencies, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Bank of Industry, and the Nigerian Shippers Council received scores of 19.28 percent, 16.03 percent, and 14.83 percent, respectively.The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a score of 13.5%, the Commercial Law and Trademarks Department received 12.0%, and the Nigerian Police Force received 11.06%.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) received 13.97%.The Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML), with a compliance rate of 8.54 percent, is the least compliant organization on the list.

The top five performing MDAs are also the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), which came in first with 81.11%; Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), which came in second with 78.68%; Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC), which came in third with 68.37%; Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), which came in fourth with 64.59%; and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), which came in fifth with 63.68%.

Dr. Oduwole made the following remarks in response to the report: “For the past six years, the PEBEC has routinely released an EO1 Compliance Report, which captures a periodic empirical examination of the monthly reports received from MDAs. based on the most recent EO1 Compliance Report, which is for the period of January to December 202.

“A significant step forward in the campaign to integrate EO1 into the Public Service’s culture is the formulation of EO1 orders in the Business Facilitation Act 2022. It is anticipated that the legal requirements will act as a catalyst for Nigeria to produce public services that are more open and effective.”

President Muhammadu Buhari established the PEBEC in July 2016 to eliminate important bureaucratic barriers and bottlenecks to conducting business in Nigeria. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo serves as its chair.
