Former Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit has encouraged manager Mikel Arteta to bench Gabriel Martinelli for Wednesday’s Premier League match against Manchester City at Emirates Stadium.Petit thinks Martinelli should not start for Arsenal against Man City because he is “physically and mentally exhausted.
“He claims that the Brazilian is now having “tough” luck and that Leandro Trossard ought to start in front of him.”I don’t find it surprising that he is struggling right now. Both physically and psychologically, he appears exhausted,” Petit said to Compare Bet.”I’d also argue the tactical arrangement makes things difficult for him. He does not receive the same amount of help from the midfield that [Bukayo] Saka receives on the right because [Oleksandr] Zinchenko is positioned inside.
He added, “Maybe he [Trossard] should start, but I am pretty sure Arteta will start [Gabriel] Martinelli. I think Trossard is a good option, and he’s shown [Mikel] Arteta that he can trust him as a starter in the first eleven.”
