Former Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand has noted that the Arsenal captain band weighs heavily on Martin Odegaard.
He said the Norwegian could suffer a drop-off in performance and could never remain the same player this season.
The former Red Devil player also pointed out that he is not convinced by the club’s midfield options.
Arsenal have started this season on a brighter note, defeating London rivals, Crystal Palace 2-0 on the opening day.
Ferdinand noted that Odegaard looked out of sorts after being given the captain’s armband.
The last substantive captain of the club was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who left the Emirates for Barcelona in January following his fallout with the manager, Mikel Arteta.
Rio Ferdinand was responding to a fellow pundit on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel who reckoned that the captain’s armband weighs on the Norwegian midfielder heavily.
Ferdinand replied, “Yep! Heavy! I said that in the group chat. It could be a different Odegaard this year.”
The former England international also questioned the ability of Arsenal’s two central midfielders, Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka to help the club achieve their goal this season.
“I just worry about your central midfield,” he added, lamenting the players’ inconsistency.
