Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves has hailed Erik ten Hag over his decision to drop Harry Maguire from his starting XI and sack Cristiano Ronaldo from the club.
Hargreaves believes that the absence of the two players has brought unity among the rest of the squad with the team now positioned to win a trophy this season.
According to him, though it was not an easy call to keep Ronaldo and Maguire out of the team, the decision is now yielding positive results.
Manchester United returned to Preston League action on Tuesday after the World Cup break, beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 to go just one point behind top four and Hargreaves believes Ten Hag’s side might just claim a trophy this season.
“As I look at the whole team, there is so much to like about this United team. I think the Maguire decision, not playing him ..Varane and Martinez and the Ronaldo situation and a whole lot of things,” he said on Premier League Production.
“It has a lot to do with him and I think he deserves a lot of credit for making these calls. Not easy ones by the way.
“They’re improving but I think the top four battle would be tough but I think they can get there. I think they can win a trophy this season, maybe I think they’ll win something,” he added.
