Former Manchester United attacking midfielder, Juan Mata, has sent a message to Bruno Fernandes following the Portuguese’s winner against Southampton in a Premier League tie on Saturday.
Fernandes struck home a fine effort in the 55th minute to secure an important 1-0 victory for Man United against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The goal against Southampton was Fernandes’ first goal since taking the number eight shirt from Mata.
Mata, a former Chelsea star, left Manchester United this summer following the expiration of his contract and is now a free agent.
The Spaniard saluted his former teammate on Instagram, writing in response to a post from Fernandes after the match: “You deserve it.”
The pair grew close during their time together at Old Trafford and Fernandes’ feelings when Mata departed this summer were clear.
Fernandes wrote on his Instagram: “One legend, magician, mentor and a true friend. I couldn’t be more lucky to find someone to look for and learn in this beginning at United and the Premier League.”
Fernandes joined the Red Devils back in January 2020 from Sporting CP and hit form immediately.
