Fishermen Cry For Help As Unknown Gunmen Invade Community

Over the weekend, gunmen believed to be sea pirates launched a deadly ambush on fishermen off the Atlantic coast of Brass in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The assailants killed one fisherman and abducted four others, also confiscating their engines and fishing gear during the attack. The incident unfolded in a coastal hamlet predominantly inhabited by fishermen, where two additional individuals sustained injuries, and unfortunately, one of them succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention.

Muhammed Musa, the spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, stated that he is yet to be briefed on the details of the incident.

Expressing condemnation for the attack and the kidnapping, Hanson Alabo-Karika, the Chairman of Brass Local Government Council, emphasized that the unjustified and inhumane act resulting in a fatality must not go unpunished. He called upon security officials to promptly investigate, apprehend, and convict all individuals involved in the crime. Alabo-Karika affirmed the commitment to maintaining the current calm in the council, attributing it to purposeful strategies implemented by the administration led by Governor Douye Diri.

This tragic event highlights the vulnerability of coastal communities to criminal activities and underscores the urgent need for robust security measures to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of residents in these areas.
