Jimi Lawal, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jimi Lawal defected to the APC after failing to get the courts designate him the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in Ogun.
Lawal, a former adviser to Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, joined the PDP last year and secured the gubernatorial form, according to DRILLOGIST.
Lawal filed many court challenges against Adebutu and other PDP candidates after Adebutu was declared the primary election winner, but he was unsuccessful at the appeal level.
Governor Dapo Abiodun welcomed Lawal and his supporters into the APC on Sunday.
Afolabi Orekoya, Director of Media for the Ladi Adebutu Campaign Organisation, informed DRILLOGIST that Jimi Lawal gang, Ola Kukoyi, Fasiu Ajadi, and others had been recognized as APC members for over five months, adding that “this is not new anymore.”
“Lawal has been a mole sponsored by Dapo Abiodun and his co-travellers to hijack and destabilize the PDP in the state in order to accomplish his second term ambition,” Orekoya said.
According to him, Lawal switched from the APC to the PDP just three months before the party’s gubernatorial primary, when he was beaten by Adebutu.
Orekoya stated that Lawal refused all peace offerings to join Adebutu in giving.
“He filed scores of spurious cases against the PDP and Hon Adebutu, but to God’s glory, it all ended in futility. Even the court voiced concern about Jimi Lawal’s desire to keep the PDP out of the polls at whatever cost. “In a December 2022 verdict, Judge Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court described Jimi Lawal as a spoiler,” Orekoya claimed.
He stated that Lawal’s return to the APC proved that he was a mole whose primary goal was to undermine the PDP from the start.
“He has failed, and he has failed miserably. For us, it’s good riddance to bad garbage, and we’re grateful that God has revealed one of the party’s opponents.”
He stated that the PDP is steadfast and dedicated.
