A member of the House of Representatives for the Akamkpa/Biase federal constituency in Cross River State, Daniel Asuquo has given reasons for jilting the Peoples Democratic Party for the Labour Party.
Asuquo in an interview claimed the Labour Party (LP) has different and better dynamics that would enable him win the Southern Senatorial District in 2023.
He explained that he had to abandon PDP because there was no fairness, equity and justice, especially because his part of the state has continually been denied opportunity to both governorship and senatorial seat.
“I had to cross over to LP because there was no justice and fairness in my former party, PDP.
“I was denied the governorship slot because the PDP cabal in the state went against the wishes of the people. And I have always won elections through the wishes of the people. That’s why I will continue to insist that I did not lose the last governorship primary, which was awarded to somebody else. What transpires wasn’t the wishes of the people.
“So my decision to join LP is because I have looked at where I am stronger and see that it is on LP platform that I will win the Cross River south senatorial district election.”
Asuquo who is the LP Senatorial candidate for the Southern District said he is not one to take a party’s ticket for the fun of it but does so to win an election.
He said during the gubernatorial primary, he won much of the seven local government areas in the senatorial district.
“I won four and came up second in the other three. So I see that I am stronger in the South, where we had insisted power must return before, unfortunately, the cabal awarded it to someone from the central.”
Dansuki as he is popularly called went on to explain that he is sticking out his neck for the election because his part of the district has been marginalised.
“No one from my part of the district has ever been a Senator or governor. We have been denied this continually. This is why I am sticking out my neck.”
