Former Ekiti State Governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose, refuted a viral claim that he had left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and reaffirmed that he remained a genuine party member on Friday.
Fayose indicated in a statement issued on Friday that he just stood aside for a reason and did not quit.
“I’m still a genuine PDP member. I just stated that I stood aside because I needed to tell the truth to authority without fear of being polluted by political bias. There is a protocol for resigning from a political party, and I will follow it if the necessity arises.
“It is critical that we have someone who can give us the truth.”
“I am a member of the PDP, a member of the party caucus, a member of the PDP NEC and a member of the board of trustees based on my position as the previous chairman of the party governors’ forum. It is a life membership. But Nigeria is greater than any political party.
“I am not a member of the APC and will never be. I’ve never concealed my admiration for Tinubu. Nonetheless, I believe the 2023 presidential election will be free and fair, and I am entitled to my opinion.
“I’m not interested in fighting for any political job again. Even if I do not run under APC. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’ll never join the APC.
“Permit me to end here once again.”
“Again, may I say here that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, is the man of the season. Tinubu won the election, but the PDP was too split to win any federal elections.
“But, please continue to support and vote PDP in state and local elections, particularly in the houses of assembly and governorship elections.”
