Insecurity; Bandits Abduct Six Persons on Zamfara

In Zamfara State, bandits have seized six individuals from the Gidan Kware community in Bungudu Local Government Area. The villagers, including Ibrahim Agaji, Asma’u Jamilu, Shafa Lawali, Tukur Aliyu Muawiyah Lawali, and Saifullahi Lawali, were abducted during a night raid at around 11:35. Lawali Gidan Kware, a resident, revealed that the bandits have demanded a N10 million ransom from the victims’ families.

Despite attempts to seek help from nearby military personnel, who were unfortunately not present, the community faced a security crisis. Lawali reported that calls were made to a military contact who had been transferred to Sokoto State. Security personnel from the Federal University Gusau, located just two kilometers away, arrived after the bandits had completed their operation.

Facing challenges in raising the demanded ransom, the community organized meetings to gather funds but fell short of the N10 million target. Lawali expressed concern for the well-being of the abducted individuals, emphasizing that they are vital breadwinners for their families.

Lawali appealed to Governor Dauda Lawal and security forces to intervene and rescue the captives, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Despite attempts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, all efforts by newsmen were unsuccessful as his phone numbers were unreachable. The community’s plea for assistance remains crucial in addressing the security threat and ensuring the safe return of the abducted individuals.
