The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a woman, Charity Iroakazi, 28, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having 36 berets with Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, insignia on them in her possession.
The defendant, an artisan who resides at 14 Nurudeen St., Ojo, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and unlawful possession of IPOB berets, NAN reports.
The prosecutor, Insp Samuel Mishozunnu, told the court that the offences were committed on June 16 at Mosalasi Bus Stop, Satellite Town, Lagos.
According to Mishozunnu, a motorcycle rider was stopped by authorities on patrol while carrying a large black nylon.
The defendant claimed that the motorcyclist was carrying 36 pieces of berets with the IPOB emblem written on them in black, green, and red.According to the prosecutor, the rider directed the police to the sender’s address, which resulted in the defendant’s detention.
The crimes, in accordance with the prosecutor, were against the 2015 Lagos State Criminal Law.
However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
The defendant was granted bail for N50,000 with one surety in the same amount by the magistrate, Mrs. Folasade Hughes.
Hughes postponed consideration of the case until August 2.
