The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello, Matawallen Maradun, has emphasized that the recent mistaken drone bombing by the army in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, resulting in the tragic deaths of over 100 individuals, will not deter the ongoing efforts to combat banditry and terrorism.
During a visit to the affected area and victims, Dr. Bello conveyed the Federal Government’s condolences and commitment to support the affected families. Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, represented by his deputy, also expressed sympathy and called for federal support in caring for the victims.
The death toll has tragically risen to 127, with survivors recounting their harrowing experiences at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital. The United Nations Human Rights Office has termed the incident “disturbing” and urged the authorities to take all necessary measures to protect civilians in future operations.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, offered condolences and called for a thorough investigation, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demanded an independent inquiry, compensation for the victims, and a day of national mourning.
The Building Blocks for Peace Foundation (BBFORPEACE) called for a complete overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture due to recurring accidental bombings and security lapses.
