Two awaiting trial inmates who had escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Katsina on October 17, 2023, have been successfully recaptured by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Katsina. Following their escape, a joint effort involving various security agencies was launched promptly to track down the fugitives.
In a statement released on Wednesday by ASC Najibullah Idris, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina Command, it was disclosed that Ibrahim Muhammad Lawal, also known as Abba Kala, the first escapee, had been arrested earlier through the collaborative efforts of the search party.
Utilizing both technological means such as the e-tracking mechanism and a combination of overt and covert intelligence gathering, NCoS took decisive measures to locate the second escapee, Musa Isah. Fortunately, these efforts resulted in the successful recapture of Isah in the Kaduna metropolis on December 19, 2023.
The Katsina State Command of NCoS stressed that both escapees are now securely back in custody. Controller General of Corrections Haliru Nababa expressed appreciation for the relentless efforts of the search team and affirmed the commitment of the correctional service to ensuring the security of all custodial centres.
