Man, 35, remanded in prison for alleged rape of two-year-old baby 

Joseph Egwuatu, 35, has been charged with raping his two-year-old niece.

The incident took place at Nzam, which is part of Anambra State’s Anambra West Local Government Area.

Before allegedly perpetrating the crime, the defendant, Egwuatu, is said to have visited his brother’s residence and dispatched the family member who was watching the baby on an errand.

On Wednesday, he was charged in the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka.

She continued by saying that the ministry will soon begin a media tour to educate the people of Anambra about the risks and effects of rape, child molestation, child labor, abuse, and other relevant topics.

Ikeanyionwu also disclosed that the offender afterwards denied having had sex with the child after being charged.

He asserted that he offered to watch the youngster while the babysitter ran errands. He added that after going outside to finish off a few tasks, he came back inside when he heard the baby sobbing and found her lying in a pool of her own blood.

The child, who turns two on April 19, reportedly suffered severe damage to his or her genital organ, according to a family source who asked to remain anonymous. Before committing the heinous act, she further claimed that Egwuatu purposefully dispatched the child’s minder on an errand.

The youngster was transported to the hospital for medical attention, and the court ordered that the offender be kept in custody until his or her trial.
