The Lagos State Police Command has reported the arrest of an individual who had been falsely posing as a police commissioner.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed this arrest during a press briefing on recent accomplishments by the police.
Among these achievements, the command arrested 12 individuals for various offenses in the past two weeks.
During this period, they also confiscated four firearms, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, 11 live ammunition, and one vehicle from the culprits.
The individual pretending to be a police commissioner, identified as Emmanuel, was apprehended on September 2 when he visited a police formation in the Ikorodu area and falsely presented himself as a Commissioner of Police. Despite being initially accepted as such, further questioning revealed his impersonation.
A search at his residence uncovered a Deputy Commissioner of Police warrant card, an Assistant Commissioner of Police warrant card, a Kenwood walkie-talkie, a police camouflage singlet, and a face cap.
Additionally, another impersonator was arrested on September 4 following a complaint from the Nigeria Bar Association, Epe Area of Lagos.
The suspect, Ibrahim Bello, had been falsely practicing as a lawyer at the Epe Magistrate Courts for several years. He was apprehended fully dressed in a lawyer’s attire while attending to a client in court, and upon questioning, his impersonation was exposed.
