A 26 year-old-man, Adeyemi Babatunde, is currently in the police net for reportedly killing a driver identified as Obafunsho Ismail, over a minor accident.

The suspect was arrested on December 20, 2022, almost two weeks after he committed the said crime against the 46-year-old driver.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the incident happened on December 8, 2022, at about 8 pm, when the suspect, who drove a Lexus jeep with ‘Olu of Oya’ customized number plate, hit the deceased’s car from the rear and damaged the car’s rear light.

The deceased driver was said to have come down from his car and asked the suspect to disembark so as to assess the extent of the damage in order to find a solution to it.

Oyeyemi said the suspect refused to alight from his own vehicle and was instead making efforts to run away.

This, he said, annoyed the deceased who insisted that the suspect must come down, and he consequently sat on the bonnet of the suspect’s car to prevent him from escaping.

“The suspect, Adeyemi Babatunde, later came down and warned the deceased to leave the bonnet of his car if he didn’t want to waste his life. He then went back to the car, and drove away at high speed.”

His action had grave consequences as the deceased fell from the car and was run over by the vehicle. Not satisfied, the suspect allegedly reversed his vehicle and ran over the deceased a second time to ensure that he actually died, Oyeyemi stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect, after completing the act, ran away with his vehicle.

However, he was later traced to his father’s house in Kemta, Idi-Aba area of Abeokuta, where he was arrested by men of the State Motor Traffic Divison, on December 20, with the vehicle he used to commit the crime.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State CIID for further investigation and prosecution.
