NDLEA Says It Has Seized Over N800 Billion Worth of Drugs

Over the past three years, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in combating drug-related crimes, seizing 7,590 tons of illicit drugs valued at over N800 billion and apprehending 42,105 drug offenders nationwide. NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), shared these achievements during a visit by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

Marwa emphasized the crucial link between illicit drugs and various criminal activities, including terrorism, kidnapping, and insurgency. He highlighted the agency’s aggressive efforts to deny criminals access to illicit substances, recognizing the role drugs play in facilitating nefarious activities.

Within the three-year period, the NDLEA also destroyed 1,057 hectares of cannabis farms, secured the conviction of 8,350 offenders, and provided counseling and rehabilitation to 29,400 drug users. Marwa commended the armed forces for their dedication, loyalty, and support in ensuring the nation’s safety, particularly in areas such as arms and ammunition and the training of NDLEA officers.
