Goddy Jedy-Agba, the minister of state for power, has begun construction on a 40MVA power transmission substation in the Akwa Ibom State town of Ididep,He expects it to be completed in 18 months.
The project consists of two units of 30/40MVA power transformers with six feeders, according to a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Power (FMOP) on Wednesday.
According to the minister, building the substation was necessary for the ministry and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to strengthen the national grid, enhance service delivery, and boost the ability to send power to Akwa Ibom.
He also said upon completion, the project will strengthen the National Grid by increasing its wheeling capacity to 25,000MW by 2025.
The federal government was thanked for bringing the project to Akwa Ibom by the state’s governor, Mr. Emmanuel Udom, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner of Power and Petroleum, Dr. James Etim.The project’s director, Transmission, Engr. Nosike Emmanuel, FMOP, requested help from the government to finish it.
