On Wednesday, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area one Command, dropped a bombshell, revealing the interception of a whopping 975 rounds of red star live cartridges cleverly stashed away in bags of foreign parboiled rice.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Ahmadu Shuaibu, spilled the beans during a media briefing at the Command’s Idiroko headquarters.Shuaibu spilled the details on how the Command’s operatives nabbed the ammunition, citing a slick operation that relied on professionalism and intelligence. Their mission? To expose the tricks used by shady characters attempting to sneak live ammunition through the Imeko axis of the State.

“The bags of rice raised eyebrows because of their funky threading and sewing on the sacks. Our eagle-eyed operatives, smelling something fishy, decided to crack them open for a thorough check at the Border station. Lo and behold, during the examination, approximately 975 rounds of red star live cartridges were found craftily concealed within the bags.”

“We’re hot on the trail of those behind this shady business, aiming to serve them a taste of justice. We’re well aware of the serious risks tied to arms and ammunition trafficking, and we won’t back down in our fight against smuggling in all its forms,” Shuaibu declared.

The Acting Area Controller took pride in his team’s ability to thwart “the sinister plans of the State’s enemies” by preventing the smuggling of live ammunition into the country.

He emphasized the need for citizens to join forces in curbing such activities, stressing the importance of proactive intelligence.“Unchecked smuggling of arms and ammunition is a menace without borders, thriving on our society’s vulnerabilities. The repercussions are dire, from bolstering criminal organizations to sparking crises and jeopardizing national security,” he concluded, urging everyone to stay vigilant in the face of this ongoing battle.
