Nigeria Customs Service Says It Generated over N686 billion in 2 months

The acting Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, recently announced a significant increase in revenue generation.

During a press conference held in Abuja to mark his first 100 days in office, Adeniyi revealed that the NCS had generated over N686 billion in the past two months (July and August).

He stated that this surge represented a remarkable 70.13 percent increase in revenue collection.

This figure is notably higher than the average monthly collection of N202 billion during the first half of the year, which concluded in June.

He expressed his satisfaction with consistently surpassing the monthly target collection of N307 billion and emphasized the commitment to revenue generation.

Adeniyi also mentioned that the ongoing revenue recovery review activities had contributed an additional N8 billion during this period. He affirmed the intention to sustain and expand this positive momentum throughout the year, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Addressing the battle against smuggling, Adeniyi highlighted the NCS’s accomplishments in the past eight months.

They successfully conducted 1,763 seizures, valued at N11.9 billion in Duty Paid Value, intercepting various contraband items, including arms, ammunition, illicit drugs, substandard pharmaceuticals, and other prohibited goods.

These efforts resulted in the apprehension of 62 suspects who are currently undergoing legal procedures, demonstrating the NCS’s commitment to combating smuggling and protecting the nation.
