On February 18 2023, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and the governor of Nasarawa State will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will mark the beginning of oil drilling in Keana.
The state government released a statement at the same time that early research found another oil discovery in the Obi LGA, notably in Agwatashi and Assakio. This information was revealed by the state’s governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, on Monday during a discussion with APC stakeholders in Obi.
The governor claims that everything is now prepared for the MoU to be signed with NNPCL, which will open the door for the drilling of Keana’s first oil well.Engineer Sule stated that his administration will not give up until Nasarawa State started to reap the benefits of being a state that produces oil.”In 2019, many people believed that my mention of oil during my campaign was purely political.
At the moment, I vowed to try and, with God’s help, use the knowledge I had gained during my time in Houston, Texas, the world’s oil capital.”At that time, Keana was the only place oil had been found. Many individuals aren’t even aware of the full scope of the oil discovery. The oil problem is currently a reality. The first oil well will now be drilled by NNPL in March.”Early research indicates that Obi contains oil as well.
This Saturday, 18th February, NNPCL and Nasarawa State Government will sign MoU. It will now dawn on people that this administration doesn’t make empty promises but only seeks to bring development to the state.“I will not rest until we finally join the league of oil producing states and we begin to enjoy the 13 per cent derivation. We expect to see appreciable progress by May this year,” he stated.”I won’t stop until we eventually join the group of oil-producing nations and start taking advantage of the 13% derivation,” he declared. By May of this year, we anticipate observable progress, he said.
The governor announced that his administration has given aside over N2 billion as counterpart funds to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for the building and renovation of schools while addressing at the palace of the Zhe Mighili in the Jenkwe Development Area.According to Engineer Sule, the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board’s (NSUBEB) upcoming action plan calls for the construction of roughly 20 schools in the towns of Obi, Deddere, and Adudu.
He urged those who would carry out the initiatives to closely monitor them and to draw his attention once they realized the contractor was not delivering to standard.
