Nottingham Forest terminated Steve Cooper’s position as head coach after a disappointing series of results, leading to reports of the club’s potential hiring of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Cooper’s dismissal arose from the team’s struggle with only one victory in 13 Premier League games, placing them just above the relegation zone.
Following discussions with Nuno, the club issued a statement announcing Cooper’s departure and indicating an impending announcement regarding the appointment of a new head coach.
Despite initially gaining support from fans after steering the team to Premier League survival last season, Cooper’s significant investment in new players failed to yield the expected outcomes, prompting the club’s owner to part ways with him.
Nottingham Forest expressed gratitude for Cooper’s contributions and achievements, emphasizing his role in their return to the Premier League.
The owner extended well wishes for Cooper’s future endeavors, while reports indicated that Nuno’s potential appointment may occur before the team’s crucial upcoming match against Bournemouth.
Nuno, who has been without a club since departing Al-Ittihad in November, had previous managerial stints at Tottenham and Wolves, where he achieved promotion from the Championship and led the team to notable finishes in the Premier League and a Europa League quarter-final.
Alongside Nuno, former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner was also linked to the Forest coaching position before Nuno emerged as the leading candidate.
