Mr. Edomwonyi Iduozee Ogiegbaen has been removed from his position as the Enogie of Egbaen Siluko in the Ovia North East LGA of Edo State by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.
Ogiegbaen’s dismissal followed his removal from his position as chief coordinator for Enigie matters at the palace in January 2023 due to allegations of rebellion, neglect of duty, and revolt inside the Enigie fold in the Benin Kingdom.
The appointment of Capt. Uwadiae Ohonbamumwen (Rtd) as the Odionwere of Egbaen Siluko was also declared by Oba Ewuare.Earlier in his speech to the Benin throne, Ohonbamumwen, the former Ozukpogieva (second-most senior elder in Egbaen Siluko), disavowed any involvement in the atrocities committed against Ogiegbaen. He claimed that Ogiegbaen had blatantly rejected several requests to return to his original location.
He bemoaned the fact that Ogiegbaen ignored multiple requests from elders of the dukedom after he prompted some rebellious dukes to seek the Edo State Government for the creation of traditional councils for Edo South LGAs in an effort to splinter the Benin Kingdom. In order to prevent lawlessness in the area, he pleaded with the oba to appoint an administrative head in Egbaen Siluko, which he claimed had been overdue for the past five years.
Prior to the installation of the new Enogie in Obazuwa, the Benin monarch also named Mr. Aimuamwosa Oyemwense Agidi as the Odionwere of the Obazuwa Dukedom in Ovia North East LGA.Aimuamwosa was proclaimed the Odionwere of Obazuwa by Oba Ewuare II after settling differences with local elders. The Odionwere promised to unite his people and ensure development in the area.
