Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke has directed that the most senior career heads across all the local government, local council development areas in the State take charge of the affairs of their respective councils.

This was made known in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed and obtained by DRILLOGIST on Monday in Osogbo.

According to the statement, Adeleke maintained that it was in compliance with the judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo that sacked the purportedly elected local government Chairmen and Councilors.

Also, the directive according to the statement is with immediate effect.

DRILLOGIST recalls that on Friday, November 25, 2022, Justice Ayo Nathaniel Emmanuel of the Federal High Court, Osogbo, had nullified the Osun local government election.

The local government poll was conducted on Saturday, October 15, 2022, by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) under the Chairmanship of Segun Oladitan.

While declaring the local government election as illegal, null and void, Justice Emmanuel had ruled that the election was not conducted in consonance with the Electoral Act, 2022.

He also ordered the local government chairmen and councillors who were sworn in after the election to vacate Local Government Secretariats and offices with immediate effect.

The Osun Local Government election had been a contentious issue between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) right from the time the State government under Adegboyega Oyetola scheduled the poll for Saturday, October 15, 2022.

The Osun PDP then in opposition, had taken OSIEC and its Chairman to court, contending that the local government election was illegal and was contrary to the Electoral Act, 2022.

The Osun State House of Assembly had given OSIEC the nod to go ahead with conducting the LG poll.

The Osun House of Assembly also approved the OSIEC law 2022, which was signed into law by the outgone governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

However, the Osun local government election was boycotted by the Peoples Democratic Party and other parties and the ballot which adopted a “Yes” or “No” system saw one political party, the APC, ran for all the available positions.
