The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated that it would not succumb to political settlements or fence mending arrangements that are illegal.
The PDP, while reacting to a recent interview granted by Dotun Babayemi regarding his expulsion, affirmed that it is founded on democratic principles, laws and ethos.
In a statement signed by Akindele Adekunle, Chairman, Osun PDP Caretaker Transition Committee on Sunday in Osogbo, the party maintained that it cannot subject its operations to emotional antics of political nomads like the expelled former member.
The PDP also described the purported unilateral requests alluded to by Babayemi in his interview as not only laughable but dangerous to the fortunes of the party in the coming general elections.
According to the statement, “That Babayemi could descend to the abyss of expectations of being gifted with proceeds of a democratic exercise, in which he never participated, shows his inclination for cheap roses in the thorny democratic field.
“Asking the PDP to relinquish tickets of duly elected candidates of the party to some unknown individuals in the face of the law and the electoral act without any just cause, was not only strange to PDP as a democratic organization, but also akin to destabilizing the party towards the coming elections.
“While peace and democratic culture may be alien to the likes of Prince Babayemi judging by his acrimonious political antecedent, it is, however, a flamboyant ignorance for anyone to expect the PDP to bend awkwardly to the side of illegality to please his ego or political greed.”
The party noted that the ward executives of the party, who took the lawful decision to remove Babayemi as a PDP member in Osun State, were elected officials administering the party in Otun Balogun ward 2, Ayedaade Local Government who are elected officials, empowered on statutory duties, including enforcement of party discipline.
Dotun Babayemi, a gubernatorial aspirant of the party was on Friday expelled from the Osun PDP by executives of his Otun Balogun Ward 2, Ayedaade Local Government of Osun State.
The party made the move over allegations of anti-party activities brought against Babayemi.
However, Babayemi also described his expulsion by the party as a ruse.
The PDP chieftain also described those behind the move as jesters who are ignorant of the rules of the party.
