Pius Akubo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has refused to join President-elect Bola Tinubu’s legal team.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, formed its Presidential Election Petition Team a few days ago.
Akubo was one of the 12 legal luminaries with considerable expertise in electoral problems, constitutional legislation, and litigation created by the APC.
Tinubu’s victory in the recent presidential election is anticipated to be defended by the legal team.
Akubo, on the other hand, stated that he was not aware of the appointment and that Tinubu’s team had not formally told him.
“In the last twenty-four hours or so, the social media arena has been agog with a trending unsigned letter in respect of APC’s selection of Presidential Election Petition Law Team, whereby my name is placed as number ten,” Akubo stated in a statement.
“With all due respect, I would want to emphasize that I was unaware of the abovementioned appointment. In reality, I have not received any formal contact on the topic thus far.”
Akubo emphasized that he is unable to defend the President-elect for personal reasons.
“In light of the foregoing and for personal reasons, I now refuse the stated position,” he said.
