Police Officers, Okada Riders Clash in Lagos

On Tuesday, chaos erupted in the vicinity of Santos Avenue, Abule Egba, Lagos State, as police officers enforcing a ban on motorcycles clashed with riders.

In a post on its official handle, the Lagos State Police Command explained that the clash occurred when officers were attacked by Okada riders attempting to resist the ban enforcement. The post justified the officers’ use of teargas to disperse the crowd and protect themselves.

The post further detailed an unfortunate incident where a passenger in a tricycle, witnessing the teargas use, panicked and jumped out of the tricycle. Tragically, an oncoming Leyland tipper, bearing registration number AAB 376 CB and being driven recklessly, ran over the panicked passenger. The tipper driver fled the scene, but the vehicle was later recovered. The police have established contact with the deceased’s family, and a full investigation into the incident is underway.
