Prof. Pat Utomi, a political economist, has asked for a review of the results of Saturday’s presidential election in 10 federation states.
Utomi, the Convener of The BIG-TENT Coalition of Political Parties, Social Movements, and Civil Society Organizations for Obi-Datti, made the announcement during a news conference in Lagos on Friday.
Lagos, Rivers, Imo, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Katsina, Adamawa, and Akwa Ibom were among the states he mentioned.
“We want to encourage INEC to exhibit good faith and not cleanse their server of operations from the February 25 presidential election on the pretext of having it ready for March 11,” Utomi stated.
“We also want to suggest that INEC administratively conduct a review of the votes in 10 states.
“All we want is light. We blame no one and want no harm to anybody, but we are confident that our children will have a brighter life if we ensure that sunlight and openness characterize our democratic practices.
“We request an INEC review. If this does not deliver justice, a legal process to overturn the rigging and determine the genuine winner will be initiated.
“If that is problematic for the system, we demand for the February 25 election to be cancelled outright and for excitement to be allowed to flow through to March 11 with the promise of a free, fair, and transparent election.”
