Nyesom Wike, the governor of River State, asked for a reimbursement of various federal projects, including highways that he rebuilt with permission from the federal government, on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
Wike said that his government had to change its procurement rules to source for funding to complete some flyovers in the state capital that are Federal government projects when speaking to the President-elect, who was in the state to commission various projects.
Wike noted that since they are federal projects and he must complete them, he could not stand to see them left unfinished.
If we had claimed that these were Federal Government roads, we wouldn’t have done it, he continued. Who will endure suffering?Since we’ve stated that we don’t want our people to suffer, I also think the Federal Government ought to acknowledge our efforts on our behalf.
Can you bring your bill so we can reimburse you for the money you spent building these roads? These are projects we ought to be working on.That is how a relationship with an excellent federal government is meant to work. I can tell you that as soon as you walk into the office and decide to return the money, other states will have the guts to follow your lead.
