Ms. Ibim Semenitari, Director of New Media for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers Governorship Campaign Council, has denied colluding with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the March 18 Governorship poll.
Semenitari, in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, rejected the claims of collusion with INEC and security services to rig the Rivers poll as baseless.
According to her, the PDP has continuously observed the electoral process’s laws and procedures, and there is no proof that they have engaged in any misconduct.
Notwithstanding the opposition parties’ claims against the PDP in Rivers, she said the party has always maintained good spirits and continued to create momentum.
This, she claimed, was a follow-up to its pledge that it will win the gubernatorial and state assembly elections on March 18.
She said that despite poor news, the PDP had managed to stay ahead of its rivals by gaining the backing of a number of key figures in the state.
Semenitari, who stated that the PDP had established a strong grassroots presence, went on to say that the party had been holding frequent campaign events and connecting with local communities, which had helped to maintain the party in the lead.
She stated that Siminalayi Fubara, the PDP’s Governorship Candidate, has received several endorsements from various organizations.
According to her, this included some competing parties collapsing their structures to support him as the deserving candidate for Rivers state governorship.
She attributed it primarily to his lengthy history of working for Rivers’ welfare.
“His political beliefs, as well as his great leadership qualities, resonated with the people of the state,” Semenitari continued.
