Paul Scholes, a Manchester United icon and England midfielder, has instructed club manager Erik ten Hag to bench two players so that they may have some rest.
The players were in Man United’s 4-1 win over Real Betis in the Europa League Friday night. They showed indications of tiredness, according to Scholes.
Casemiro and Luke Shaw were especially identified by the former England player as needing a break.
Prior to the second leg at Old Trafford, the Red Devils scored goals to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition through Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes, and Wout Weghorst.
After the team’s triumph over the Spanish team, Paul Scholes observed, “Some of these players need a rest right now.”I believed Shaw appeared to be in need of rest tonight, Casemiro looks like he needs a rest too”.
Next week, they may give a few young players a taste of European football, which should help them in the long run, he remarked.
Paul Scholes also criticized Bruno Fernandes. He called the player’s actions during Thursdays night’s 4-1 victory over Real Betis stupid.
Scholes thinks Frenandes’ escape from a red card for a challenge on Real Betis goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, was merely a matter of luck.
The Real Betis goalkeeper cleared a ball that Fernandes had pursued down, but the midfielder surged and hit him high on the shin at the last second

The challenge was ridiculous. With the team in charge of the game it was a risk that wasn’t worth taking. He said “That was one tiny moment that was out of character a little bit and he perhaps got away with it,”. Scholes, who had earlier praised the player’s performance, said on BT Sport.

There was no need for that; it was just a little stupid.”
