Senator Ajibola Basiru has dismissed ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola’s influence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
The Senate’s immediate past spokesperson stated that the former governor is no longer a state party leader.
On Wednesday, during a welcome back event in his senatorial office in Osogbo, the capital, Basiru spoke with reporters.
According to the politician, the former minister did not work for the party or President Bola Tinubu throughout the campaign or election.
“Mr Aregbesola was our leader, but I’m not sure which party he now belongs to.” I’m not verbally abusing him. Even his patron, Asiwaju, did not vote for him.
“Go and ask him which party he voted for in the governorship election, the presidential election and the House of Assembly election.
“For the past three elections, we have not seen him participating in any of our party’s activities,” Basiru noted.
He mentioned “Baba (former Governor) Bisi Akande and (former Governor) Gboyega Oyetola” as APC leaders in Osun.
Basiru recalled that Aregesbola was absent at “four important processes” before the general elections, including primary and campaign events.
The former minister’s refusal to support his “mentor” to emerge as APC’s candidate is “a moral question they must answer”, he added
