Over the weekend, a tragic incident unfolded on the Bolo waterway in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, as a soldier lost his life in a boat mishap, as confirmed by the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division in Port Harcourt.
Major Danjuma Jonah, the Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, reported the unfortunate event. The soldier met his demise while actively serving, caught in the grips of a turbulent wave that struck the gunboat he was on, resulting in him being thrown overboard and subsequently disappearing.
In response to the distressing situation, a search and rescue operation was promptly initiated. This mission proved successful in recovering the lifeless body of the soldier, as well as retrieving the boat involved in the accident. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable challenges faced by those dedicated to their duty.
